Wilder's Opening Theory
« on: July 16, 2004, 12:57:36 PM »
I told J-Dog I'd post some of the material from our Pickup 101 workshop (http://www.pickup101.com) here for you AZ guys. This is something I wrote a while back on crafting structured openers for use in the field. I'll stress again that this is a great way to build an opener, but not the only one. Enjoy.

Wilder’s Opening Theory

In the field the number one problem I see with newbie (and some not so new) PUAs is the inability-- or unwillingness-- to open sets. If you can't open a set, you can't PU.

The reason most PUAs don’t open sets is that they don't have an opener they LOVE, that's also congruent with their personality/image.

There's lots of ways to open. Here is _A_ way (not THE way) to generate structured openers that work consistently.

Step 1: "Hey guys..."

Step 2: Hook question: "What’s a man supposed to do for a woman at a revolving door?"

The hook question is succinct, easily understood and pertains to something that will likely get your target to answer- in this case manners. It's one sentence, NO MORE.

Step 3: Pause for a response, i.e. she says, “Get the door for her.”

Step 4: Calibrate and address their response, either with PLAYFUL busting, which I usually do with a mini cold read: "You know, you have a profound grasp of the obvious," (again _PLAYFULLY_,) or with a general statement: "Um, duh."

Step 5: General riffing off their response, Cocky & Funny banter, etc.

her: "Open the door for her."
me: "You're a little princess aren't you, just waiting for you night in shining armor to come open all your doors."
her: "Hey, I'm worth it!"
me: "You're worth it?! You should open doors for me!"
her: "As if!"
me: "Just playing... I like her, she's feisty!"

Step 6: Post-opener story: This is a story that's meant to follow and explain your opening question while building interest and attraction by being engaging and conveying all the right things about you. It should be TIGHT, succinct and build to a punch line.

For example: "So get this. The other day I’m walking into Neiman’s and I see the reflection of this woman walking behind me. So I get to the revolving door and I thought I’d step aside and push it to get it started moving, and then let her go by, which she did. But then I kinda space out and got in the same little stall as her. So then I just panicked and sorta reached around her to push the door and kinda dry-humped her into the store. We finally spilled inside and she turns to me with this funny look and says, <big pause> "And they say Chivalry’s dead.’" <Stop talking here, give them a chance to respond/laugh.>

So, to re-cap:

1. Hey guys...
2. Hook question: What a guy supposed to do for a girl at a revolving door?
3. They respond
4. You bust on their response
5. Cocky & Funny Banter
6. Post-opener story leading to punchline

"Learning to open sets is like learning to hit the ball straight in golf; there's a lot more to learn, but just being able to do this makes the game fun."
Baby was a black sheep, baby was a whore.
You know she got big, well she's gonna get bigger.

i like it :D
"The chicks have well-built routines and defenses against afc behaviors.
But against a strategy they
aren't used to, they are vulnerable to attack because they didn't get their
castle stormed where, when and how they are repeatedly accustomed"

wow. that's making it sound like facing an epic battle. lol

always good to have a good backstory w/ dhv spikes. Depending on the opener a good backstory is usually a safe back up when they start wondering why youd ask your opener.
